SuperFOIL Loft Insulation Case Study, 120m² Farm Property in Bridgend
This large farm property in Bridgend required a substantial upgrade to its existing loft insulation. Around 70m² of old fibre insulation was removed, a fresh 100mm layer of fibre insulation was installed where required, and approximately 120m² of SuperFOIL was fitted across the roof structure to improve the overall thermal performance of the loft.

The problem
The existing loft insulation had become heavily disturbed over time, with sections of old fibre insulation compressed, displaced or no longer providing consistent coverage across the loft floor.
Because of the size and construction of the roof, simply adding more insulation to isolated areas would not have provided the comprehensive upgrade required. The customer wanted to improve the thermal performance of the entire loft while dealing properly with the deteriorated existing insulation.
The property's timber structure also created several awkward sections that needed to be worked around carefully during installation.
Our assessment
The loft measured approximately 120m² across the roof area.
We recommended removing around 70m² of the existing fibre insulation that was no longer performing effectively, replacing the affected sections with a fresh 100mm layer of fibre insulation and installing SuperFOIL across approximately 120m² of the roof structure.
This combination allowed the existing loft floor insulation to be improved while introducing an additional reflective insulation layer at roof level.
The installation
The first stage involved removing approximately 70m² of the old fibre insulation and clearing the affected sections of the loft floor.
A new 100mm layer of fibre insulation was then installed to replace the material that had been removed, restoring coverage between the ceiling joists where required.
The team then worked across the large roof structure, fitting approximately 120m² of SuperFOIL to the underside of the rafters. The material was cut and formed around the property's timber supports, roof junctions and restricted sections to create continuous coverage across the roof slopes.
Particular attention was given to the more complicated sections around the central roof structure, where the foil needed to be carefully fitted around existing timberwork rather than simply stretched across it.
The result
The completed loft now has a much more comprehensive insulation system, combining replacement fibre insulation at ceiling level with approximately 120m² of SuperFOIL across the roof structure.
The old and deteriorated insulation was removed rather than simply being covered over, while the replacement 100mm fibre layer restored the affected sections of the loft floor.
The SuperFOIL installation created an additional thermal layer across the large roof area, leaving the property with significantly more consistent insulation coverage throughout the loft.
